The cost of living in Boise, ID is 28.6% lower than in Los Angeles, CA. Therefore, you would have to earn a salary of $28,546 to maintain your current standard of living of $40,000 in Los Angeles, CA. Breaking News

The Idaho House voted almost unanimously to boost the amount homeowners can exempt from the assessed value of their property to $75,000, from $50,000, a move that would save most Idaho homeowners money on their property taxes next year.

In addition to increasing the exemption, the bill lets homeowners include the value of their land in the exemption. And it indexes the exemption in future years to inflation, allowing it to rise.

Legislators say that since the original exemption was passed in 1982, the tax burden on homeowners has grown “out of balance.” They now pay 63 percent of the state’s $1.1 billion property-tax bill, up from about 45 percent two decades ago. In addition to increasing the exemption, the bill lets homeowners include the value of their land in the exemption. And it indexes the exemption in future years to inflation, allowing it to
rise.
